Modern History is the study of the turning points, challenges and changes in our world from the First World War through to the end of the Millennium. Modern History helps you acquire the key skills and knowledge required to pursue further Humanities studies.
Unit 1
Unit 1: Change & Conflict you will:
- Look at the significant changes World War I brings
- Investigate the consequences of the various peace treaties
- Investigate the ‘Roaring 20s’ boom and the bust of the Great Depression
- Explore significant social, cultural, political, economic and technological changes from 1900 – 1945
- Explore the rise of Fascism, Militarism, and Nazism
- Study the road to World War II
Unit 2
Unit 2: The Changing World Order you will:
- Investigate the nature and impact of the Cold War
- Explore the Korean War, Vietnam War and Cuban Missile Crisis and Civil Rights Campaigns
- Compare the competing ideologies of capitalism, communism, socialism & democracy
- Investigate regional conflict of the Northern Irish troubles
- Explore the terrorist campaigns and movements of the Irish Republican Army and Paramilitary Loyalists
