Subject Overview
Students examine how and why the media constructs and reflects reality and how audiences engage with, consume, read, create and produce media products.
Unit 1 & 2
In Unit 1 & 2 you will:
- Investigate two media forms and identify how media codes and conventions are combined to construct media representations in each of these media forms
- Conduct research and plan two media productions for two different media forms of your choice
- Investigate the Australian media industry and identify the features of Australian stories
- Investigate distinctive styles and genres of media creators in media narratives that they have produced
- Research and plan a media product that reflects a specific style and genre for your chosen media form
- Investigate how the media has changed over time
Unit 3 & 4
In Unit 3 & 4 you will:
- Investigate the social, historical, institutional, cultural, economic and political factors that influence the construction and reception of media narratives, including one feature film
- Conduct research and plan a media product for a media form of your choice
- Research, plan, produce and evaluate two media experiments to develop required skills for your final media product
- Produce a substantial final media product that realises the intention statement in your media production design
- Investigate how audiences are controlled by and demonstrate agency with the media
