Subject Overview
English as an Additional Language (EAL) is an alternative English subject for students who speak English as a second or additional language. This subject provides guidance and support for the EAL learners completing the two-year VCE course and an English component is compulsory to satisfactorily complete the VCE.
Entry in Units 3 and 4 EAL is subject to approval by VCAA.
Unit 1 & 2
In Unit 1 & 2 you will:
- Study prints and non-print texts including plays, novels, short stories, and films
- Present a persuasive Oral Presentation
- Study Media Texts – news articles
- Create your own writing having looked at a variety of forms of writing
Unit 3 & 4
In Unit 3 & 4 you will:
- Read and respond to a variety of texts including plays, novels, short stories, and films
- Analyse an issue in the media in detail
- Create and present a persuasive argument in oral form
- Create your own writing looking at a variety of forms
- Comprehend audio-visual texts
