Subject Overview
In Art students study a range of artists and artworks and use this to inform their own creative practice; and to develop a body of work. Their visual responses will explore ideas and experiment with materials, techniques and processes.
Unit 1 & 2
In Unit 1 & 2 you will:
- Explore a range of artforms and respond to a range of artworks, ideas and the practices of artists through experimentation
- Develop your art practice and reflect on your process through annotations
- Explore collaborative practices to make and present artworks.
- Research a range of artists, their practices and their artworks
- Study the ways that art reflects the values, beliefs and traditions of the societies in which it was created
Unit 3 & 4
In Unit 3 & 4 you will:
- Develop personal ideas using research of at least one artwork by a contemporary or historical artist
- Develop your own visual responses inspired by personal ideas and experiences
- Document your creative practice and refine and resolve ideas into final artworks
- Research, analyse and compare artworks by historical and contemporary artists
- Explore and experiment with a variety of art materials and techniques
Types of Assessment
- A documented art journal that presents explorations and the development of personal ideas which includes reflective annotations
- Finished artworks that responds to the ideas explored using the Creative Practice
- Presentation of your research into selected artists
- Extended and short answer responses, analysing artworks from a range of artists
- Critiques of the body of work and final artworks
