VCE Vocational Major – Literacy

Subject Overview

VCE Vocational Major Literacy focuses on the development of the knowledge and skills required to be literate in Australia today. The key knowledge and skills include a student’s ability to confidently and fluently interpret and create texts that have purpose and are accurate and effective. This subject will aim to ensure that what is learnt in the classroom is connected to the real world. This course will cater for individual student’s needs and use authentic materials and resources drawn from everyday life.

Unit 1 & 2

  • Describe, analyse and comment on different text types and their content
  • Identify, describe and construct different parts of digital texts suitable for a range of digital platforms
  • Communicate the etiquette of the digital world in both written and oral forms
  • Identify and analyse the arguments of others in both print and non-print texts
  • Plan, write and draft an oral presentation

Unit 3 & 4

  • Read, understand and explain information drawn from specialised texts
  • Plan, draft and edit short written or visual texts to promote a product
  • Plan, write and draft an oral presentation
  • Produce a range of authentic written material, including PowerPoint presentations, infographics, a set of instructions, and brochures or blogs
