Subject Overview
Music enables students to develop performance skills in their chosen voice or instrument. Students also explore and develop their understanding of how music is organised. Music helps you acquire the key skills and knowledge required to pursue further music studies.
Unit 1 & 2
In Unit 1 & 2 you will:
- Prepare solo and group works for performance
- Develop knowledge of music language concepts
- Identify various music features by ear
- Transcribe melodies
- Transcribe rhythms
- Listen and respond to a range of music, becoming familiar with how music creators use the elements of music
- Use music notation software
- Compose short melodies
Unit 3 & 4
In Unit 3 & 4 you will:
- Prepare a program of solo and group works for performance
- Use music analysis skills to refine strategies for developing your performances
- Analyse interpretation in a wide range of recorded music
- Recognise and recreate music language concepts such as scales, melodies, chords, harmony and rhythmic materials that relate to contemporary music
- Develop strategies to address the technical, expressive and stylistic challenges relevant to works they are preparing for performance
